I am exploring where fabric gathers instead of lying flat, and even when it is flat, the difference in texture creates tension and interest. This new collection began with four pieces. Each piece started with layered fabric, layers that do not hide each other.
In most of them, the question is what a fold holds, what it has gathered. They all leave room for a viewer to have their story inside the fold.
My daughter watched me working through these and asked if she could bring lace into what comes next. I said yes without hesitation. The lace has not arrived in the work yet. When it does, it will be a complexity to explore. Because lace, for me, is a lot of elegant details, patterns, and repetitions stitched together. A lot to process about patterns creating a fabric of life.
These four pieces record a beginning: texture as the ground before meaning arrives. The lineage that is still being added to; this is the moment to look closely.
Which fold are you standing in right now?
